Debt, Benefits and Housing Advisor (Internally Known as Frontline Advisor) 

Portsmouth

£22,834.40 per year (32 hours per week)

Temporary 12 month contract 

Part Time (32 Hours per Week)

 

YOU is a registered charity that has been providing care, support and advice for over 30 years to vulnerable people, working across Hampshire, Dorset, West Sussex and the Isle of Wight to give them the tools and resources they need to live independent, secure and valued lives.

 

Essential Requirements: 

  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant and up to date legislation in at least one area of the following – Debt, Welfare benefits, Housing and Employment.

  • An understanding of what causes people to need advice services and of the impact of poverty and exclusion on individuals and communities.

  • An excellent knowledge of other social welfare providers/resources in the local community.

  • An understanding of the key issues facing the people of Portsmouth

 

The Role:  

The Frontline Advisor provides advice and support to help the people of Portsmouth and those Portsmouth City Council residents who live in Leigh Park and Weacock Farm to solve their problems. Advice is provided across all social welfare matters and the advisor is a specialist in at least one area of debt, welfare benefits, housing or employment. The Advisor actively builds a trusting relationship with clients and understands and delivers the help they need to enable them to lead and secure and independent lives.

About You: 

  • You have a background in providing general or specialist advice

  • You will have experience of working in an enabling way to support clients to build their independence and self-reliance.

  • You are able to demonstrate evidence of excellence in your previous experience

  • You will have excellent active listening skills

  • You will have excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing
