Essential Requirements:
Essential evidence required against which short listing will take place and to be tested at assessment centre and interview.
Hold a Counselling Diploma (minimum level)
Have at least 1 years’ experience of working with survivors of sexual and/or domestic abuse
Be prepared to work from our counselling centres based in Portsmouth and the surrounding area to offer face-to-face counselling
Skilled at putting others at ease and being approachable.
Knowledge and skills at IT with use of Windows (Office package – Outlook, Excel & Word), writing case studies and reports.
Experience of working in a front-line team.
Skilled at team working and excellent communication, understanding what is required to be part of an effective team and being solution focused.
Experience of delivering services to vulnerable clientele.
Ability to carry out welfare support calls to people who have referred to YOU Counselling.
Ability to pay systematic attention to detail and meet deadlines.
Ability to work in a busy environment.
Ability to be supportive to and with colleagues.
Ability to work client focused flexible hours, including evenings, and weekends.
Knowledge of health and safety in the workplace.
Must have use of a car, a driving licence and be willing to occasionally travel for work.
The Role:
As a YOU Counsellor you will have a range of tasks within the team including managing your own client counselling caseload, you will carry out welfare calls and triage assessments and support delivery of a wider therapeutic provision. This individual will be trauma informed and will be confident and creative in delivering therapeutic counselling sessions and psychoeducational groups in a range of geographical locations, meeting the needs of the people we work with. You will ensure that all work is carried out within contractual requirements in line with national guidelines and local best practice. YOU CYP Counsellors will work with children and young people (aged 0 – 18) and much have a deep understanding of how trauma of sexual violence and domestic abuse can affect an individual.
About You:
I have a current BACP or equivalent membership and will comply with the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions and YOUs’ policies processes and procedures
I hold a counselling qualification at Diploma level or above and have a minimum of one years’ experience working a in a client-centred way
I have experience of professionally supporting women, men and children & young people who have experienced recent or historic sexual abuse and/or domestic abuse
I have an understanding of how sexual trauma and/or domestic abuse can impact men and women’s mental wellbeing and their relationships with others
I will undertake strengths, needs and risk assessments with clients
I will work effectively with multi-agencies and partners
I will communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
I will ensure delivery of a client-centred service and enable clients and volunteers to support the service
I will have knowledge of the impact of sexual abuse and domestic abuse on individuals and communities
I have knowledge of best practice in relation to child and adult safeguarding and confidentiality
I have knowledge of criminal and civil proceedings relating to sexual abuse and/or domestic abuse
I have knowledge of and commitment to diversity and inclusion with an ability to work in a culturally sensitive way
I will be able to self-reflect, develop and improve practice through ongoing training and reviews with my line manager and supervisor
