YOU Trustee
Job description
At The YOU Trust, we support people to live safer, stronger and more independent lives. Every year thousands rely on our services including learning disability support, domestic abuse recovery, advice and advocacy, counselling, wellbeing, and training. In 2025, The YOU Trust proudly celebrated its 40th anniversary. We continue to grow, innovate and expand our services to support even more people. We’re looking for passionate trustees to help shape our next chapter.
Our charity is guided by a dedicated Board of Trustees who help steer the ‘ship’. They make sure we stay true to our mission, move in the right direction, and plan wisely for the future. But they’re not just behind-the-scenes decision-makers; they’re hands-on, too! Our trustees regularly visit our services, bring their specialist knowledge to meetings, and help us stay on top of everything.
Trustee's are there to ensure we are always delivering out charitable purpose as well as our legal responsibilities and financial good practice. Their insight and oversight help us be the best we can be. For the people and communities, we serve. Our trustees lead with their personal experience. Whether that’s managing mental health challenges, or supporting someone close to them, their personal journeys shape how they listen, learn, and lead. Our trustees’ decisions are grounded in real life, which keeps them connected to the people they’re here for. And it means they’re always striving to do better. It’s not just about having a seat at the table. It’s about making sure the voices shaping decisions truly understand what those decisions mean in real life.
Board meetings are held every six weeks (approximately 2 hours) and are a combination of online and in-person meetings, we ask for at least two service visits each year and there is optional attendance at staff events and of course additional visits.
Do you Live in the South of England, Care about fairness, quality, and justice, share our values and mission, could bring professional, personal, or lived experience and are willing to learn and contribute to our organisation? We welcome people from all backgrounds and experiences, including those who may be new to trusteeship. What matters most is commitment to our values and a desire to make a positive difference. We are committed to building a Board that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve.
We welcome applications from people of all races, ethnicities, ages, disabilities, religions, beliefs, genders, identities, sexual orientations, socio-economic backgrounds, and lived experiences.
